An environmental activist at the University of California, Santa Barbara who has organized successful student campaigns urges environmentalists to use guerrilla marketing tactics to get their message across. She noted that college students love guerrilla marketing that is based on creativity and energy, rather than big bucks.
Many people don't' trust the slick glossy yard signs, so she recommends having volunteers hand paint signs and put them up everywhere. Also painting big wooden sandwich board-style signs and chaining them wherever it is allowed is a great way to draw attention. Throwing an event like a concert is a great way to get people together to support your cause. You can use campaign funds to hire local bands and rent an amphitheater, which is sure to generate great publicity for the campaign.
